Dægurfluga

Dægurfluga er hljóðinnsetning sem sett var upp í Nýlistasafninu. Verkið er leikur að orðinu Dægurfluga, sem er notað yfir eitthvað sem þykir lítt eftirminnilegt og lítilsvert, t.d. popplög. Fluga lifir og deyr í glerbúri en með lífi sínu, hreyfingum og ferðalagi um búrið býr hún til tónverk. Fyrir framan búrið er kvikmyndavél sem nemur hreyfingar flugunnar og þeim er síðan breytt í tónlist með algoriþmiskum reglum og hjálp tölvuforritsins MAX/MSP.

Dægurfluga (Ephemera) is an audio installation which was made in the Living Art Museum in Reykjavík. The piece is a play with words, the icelandic word Dægurfluga (Ephemera) is, like in english, used for a certain type of fly which lives for a very short time. It is also commonly used as a metaphore for art which is to some extent considered insignificant and not so memorable, pop songs for instance. A fly lives and dies in a glass cage and with it's life, movements and position in the cage, it makes music. In front of the cage there is a camera which detects the fly's movements and, by the aid of algorithmic rules and the program MAX/MSP, turns it into music.
